State of Horror Anthology

CharonCoinPress_SOHCharon Coin Press is proud to announce the acquisition of the State of Horror Anthology, a series created by Dying Days author, Armand Rosamilia. Each of the State of Horror’s nine previously released books will be reopened for additional submissions, increasing the number of stories in each collection to 13. In addition to the planned revamping and release of the previous books, stories are being collected so the series will expand to encompass all 50 states.

What is State of Horror?

The idea behind State of Horror was that each anthology would focus on horror stories from a particular state, making the location the essence of the tale. Since each state has a unique personality, geography, folklore, and culture, the stories contained in each volume of State of Horror, will reflect this distinctive feel. The very state from which the volume is named becomes a character beyond setting, even the basis of a terrifying tale.

The first releases in the re-launch of the series will be summer of 2014 with State of Horror: Illinois and State of Horror: New Jersey, with editor Jerry E. Benns at the helm. Benns first joined the series in January 2014, while it was under Rymfire Books. His enjoyment working on the anthology, as well as seeing the potential of the series, are the basis of Charon Coin Press’ decision to acquire the anthology. By taking State of Horror under its banner, Charon Coin Press has elevated the series to become the flagship product.

Charon Coin Press’ belief in providing readers with quality stories makes the State of Horror anthologies an ideal series. We are very excited for the upcoming release of the first volumes of the State of Horror anthology and look forward for more to come.

  4. Could you put up the whole schedule for submissions? I have a Michigan story. Did you already do Michigan? When will you read for Michigan? Inquiring writers want to know.

    • MJ, the whole schedule is not set at this time. We are only doing two books at a time to keep stories from sitting for to long waiting to be released. We have not done Michigan at this time but it may be coming up in 2015. For each round, we are re-releasing a previous/expanded anthology and a new state. So far, we have closed Illinois and New Jersey. We currently have Louisian and North Carolina open for submission and will be announcing the next two open submissions mid-July. I hope this helps.

    • The only states that have been closed so far are Illinois and New Jersey. All other states will be open. We are hoping to be able to complete 8-10 releases a year for this series. The relaunch started January of 2014. We have 48 states left.
