Does Charon Coin Press accept unsolicited manuscripts?

No, at this time, we cannot accept unsolicited manuscripts. Only items listed on the Open Submission page are being accepted. In the future, we hope to offer more submission options.

What are the guidelines for submissions?

Submission guidelines vary between anthologies. As a general rule, submission guidelines will contain theme, word count requirements, and submission deadlines. The editor of the series may have other specific items required which will be listed on the submission page of the anthology.

Can I get an extension on the deadline?

The submission deadlines are set to meet the production and release timelines. In order to complete the projected six (6) week schedule for the selection process, extensions cannot be extended beyond the set deadline. Most submissions close at 11:59 PM CST on the date listed in the submission guidelines.

How strict are the word count requirements?

This is a common question which can be answered in two parts. The minimum word count is a hard requirement. Stories that do not meet the minimum word counts will not be accepted. For the maximum word requirements, it is a little more difficult to answer. Yes, the guidelines are set for a reason. However, if you feel your story requires additional words to complete, please contact the editor of the submission to discuss prior to submission. Usually, no more than a 10% overage is accepted.

How long does the selection process take?

The selection process may vary depending on the amount of submissions. However, the typical reading and selection time is about six (6) weeks.

If my story is in an anthology, how long until it can be published elsewhere?

Most accepted stories cannot be published for a period of twelve months. The time frame may vary but will be outlined in the author’s contract.

Are multiple submissions allowed?

The definition of “multiple submissions” in relation to Charon Coin Press is any story that is simultaneously submitted to multiple publications. With this definition, stories must be withdrawn from submission consideration before submitting to other publications. If a story is already submitted to another publication, it is not applicable for consideration by Charon Coin Press.

Do you have to be in a Charon Coin Press book or under contract to use the listed services?

No, you do not have to be associated with Charon Coin Press to use the services or vendors listed under the Services area. These services are shared as a resource to authors based on Charon Coin Press’ view of the value they provide. Charon Coin Press holds no responsibility for any agreement made between the listed services and authors. The sharing of these services is based on the philosophy of building a community and sharing resources. Before entering into any agreement with a vendor, please be clear of the services you require and outline your needs.
