Charon Coin Press: What do you think about your story being translated into an audio format?
Claire C. Riley: It’s great. I personally love audiobooks, I think that they bring a whole new element to a story. I’ve listened to some of the samples and loved what I’ve heard so far.
CCP: What aspect of your story do you feel is enhanced by being heard as opposed to read?
CR: I think everything is enhanced in audiobooks, both good and bad, but Jack Wallen is an awesome narrator, and he brings a lot of great depth to the characters that he gives a voice too.
He narrated one of my novellas (Odium Origins A Dead Saga Novella Part One) and I fell in love with his voice there, so when I heard he was doing this series I was more than happy.
He also has a brilliant eerie quality to his tone which sets the tone for any horror story perfectly. Personally, I can’t wait to listen to my characters come to life.
CCP: What books have most influenced your life?
CR: Bram Stokers Dracula was one of the first horror books I ever read. I fell in love with the mix of romance and horror and it’s tainted my innocent soul ever since. Over the years I’ve read many books, but there’s only ever been a handful that have really stayed with me. The Stand by Stephen King, The Road by Cormac Mccarthy and I Am Legend by Richard Matheson have all played their parts in my love of words. But that’s the very short list.
CCP: Do you have a favorite monster/horror character?
CR: Vampires are actually one of my favorites J The Lost Boys with Keiffer Sutherland used to be a favorite film. That mix of darkness and humor with an edge of romance has me addicted.
CCP: What do you see as the perfect setting for listening to State of Horror: Illinois?
CR: Wherever you feel comfortable screaming out loud…
