Stuart Conover bring to the table a unique look at the beginning of the end from the view of a penthouse apartment. Today we sit down with Conover and discuss a little more behind the scenes with the new release of his story in audio format. Welcome our next feature author, Stuart Conover.
Charon Coin Press: What do you think about your story being translated into an audio format?
Stuart Conover: I’m extremely excited to hear my story transferred to audio. Curiosity may have killed the kitten but I’m curious as to how mine will end up translating to something I can hear and not just see, as this will be my first short story put into audio format.
CCP: What aspect of your story do you feel is enhanced by being heard as opposed to read?
SC: I want to hear how the mood is built when hearing my story play out instead of how it reads on page. I’m curious if the areas of tension will properly translate.
CCP: What books have most influenced your life?
SC: With how many books I’ve read over the years, that is hard to fully answer. I would say Dune, Good Omens, The Stand, and The Lord of the Rings are of course some of the bigger ones. Yes, it would seem that I’m attracted to the longer and more epic tales from that list.
CCP: Do you have a favorite monster/horror character?
SC: While I’m often associated with zombies, I would have to say that my favorite horror tends to be when humanity is involved. When it comes to monsters, demons, vampires, etc the odds are highly stacked against us. When it comes to humanity being portrayed as monsters, it is the guy next door that you would never suspect. It has a more real feel to it as to something that actually could happen.
CCP: What do you see as the perfect setting for listening to State of Horror: Illinois?
SC: I would think that the perfect way to listen to State of Horror: Illinois would be at a desk with a cup of coffee in one hand and headphones on drowning out everything else. Usually horror lends itself to darkly lit rooms, but quite a bit of the tales here could fit just as easily in a more modern updated setting than the dark areas that horror fans are drawn to.
